Adding Oil To The First Tank Of Gas?

The manual that came with my GSX 600 HO does not say anything about adding oil to the first tank of gas.

What does everybody think. Is it still a good idea to add the oil?

If you are not sure I would do it anyway. It will not hurt anything...just maybe smoke s little for the first trip out on untill you add more gass. Better safe than sorry....

It's always a good idea to pre mix one full tank of gas initially. Even if the oil pump is bleed properly just do it. However I would first talk with your dealer. Some dealers at pdi time pre fill the fuel tank with enough oil for one full tank of gas. I guess they don't trust us to measure ourselves. Other dealers only put in enough pre mixed gas to run the sled up at inspection time. Bottom line ask your dealer if he or she added any oil to the fuel tank first and if so how much. If none has been added just mix some up your self.

my dealer has always had me add a bottle of the doo blizzard oil to the first tank of gas. he gives it to me for free with an extra set of plugs. its good insurance and i have never had a rave problem either.

I second Rob's comment about asking the dealer. No sense in overoiling the thing.

I think your dealer is referring to the amount of gas being injected into to motor. The oil injection is still controlled by the amount of throttle via the normal cable control.

In the past the MPEM retarded the timing for 8 or so hours. Now w/ the SDI I guess they're also controlling the gas too.

I believe my manual also states to add 500ml of oil to the first tank of fuel. It's been awhile since I leafed throught the booklet. I don't see any harm in doing this even if my memory is incorrect. Darn, getting old sucks!! The memory is the second thing to go! :whatever:

Extra oil never hurts, just remember that oil in the gas will lean the mixture so you have to take it a little easier than normal (no WFO runs!).
i've never heard that before, how does that lean it out??

More oil in the fuel means less gas per air. I have read the same thing in Snowtech a few years ago.

Thanks for the input people.

I went to my dealer today and we compared my manual to one of theirs and as it turns out in my manual part of page 152 was blank which happens to be the section where it tells you to add oil to the first tank of gas.
They replaced my manual as it was a dud and I will be adding oil to the first tank of gas.

When this post first appeared, I brought it up to my dealer so that he could find out what I need to run in my 2004 Renegade X 600HO SDI. Not relying on the manual, he called the factory and they told him that the SDI machines need to have XPS synthetic oil added to the gas as a premix for the first tank AND used in the oil tank. The machine is to be broken in with XPS and run on it after. He also pointed out that the SDI machines not be broken in with Bombardiers Pre-Mix oil.

Alot of people here have been complaining about being told that they must use this type of oil and this type of gas only. IMO, you fork out so much for your toy, why not put the best in it? such as high test gas, regardless if it needs it or not. And why not use factory oil? If you are not racing, why waste money on non factory oil? Please prove to me the scientific benefit. I've always used the factory Bombardier oil, never ever did me wrong.

Running hi octane gas doesn't necessarily mean your sled will run better. Most sleds prefer to run on 87. Racers use hi octane due to the compression of their engines. The freshness of the gas and the detergents used are the biggest factor for most everyones trail sleds.

The debate over oils spills over thy cup. May it rage on for eternity :cussing:
